DSO Target Lists by Constellation

The purpose of this section is to provide target lists of brighter NGC galaxies, nebulae and star clusters for people with telescopes of moderate aperture, viewing from less than ideal conditions. Galaxies of less than magnitude 12.5 are listed. Whenever possible surface brightness is given. Wherever surface brightness is less than 13.0, the area is shaded in gray. These should be the easiest galaxies to find in less than ideal conditions.

Southern Sky Virgo Eridanus Orion Cetus Pices Pegasus

These pages are categorized by constellation and object type. Information was gathered from various internet sources, so magnitude and surface brightness values may not always be entirely accurate. The point is to provide lists of what might be realistically sought. This is an ongoing project and should be complete by summer of 2007. I began this as an aid to galaxy hunting, but other DSOs are listed. The open clusters listed are usually those which are detached from the surrounding star fields and are at least moderately rich in stars.
